Gloucester County School Board case started a few years earlier when Gavin sued his school board in 2015 "for discriminating against him in violation of the Equal Protection Clause and Title IX of the U.S. Education Amendments of 1972, a federal law prohibiting sex discrimination by schools." When NBC News covered the case in 2020, they reported that it was supposed to be presented to the United States Supreme Court in 2017 but faced delays due to the Trump administration removing the guidance set in place during President Obama’s administration. Now, back at the lower Circuit Court of Appeals, it took several years until the case could be re-reviewed by the Supreme Court. In 2021, the Supreme Court dismissed the case, which allowed the lower court rulings to stand, both of which were in favor of Gavin.</dcterms:description>
