Title
Karate Kids
Description
Note: This film contains pedophilia and sexual violence.
Set in an undisclosed Third World country, this short film focuses on the homeless youth community living in these areas and the potential dangers they face. The film explores how those in power can abuse those in vulnerable situations, the risks associated with AIDS, and ways to prevent becoming a victim through self-defense and safe sex.
This short received criticism from ACT UP/Montréal in particular for its homophobic message, outdated stereotypes, and a lack of nuance surrounding other ways one can contact the HIV virus. For more information about these issues visit the AIDS Activist History Project.
